TO OUR SUPPORTERS: THANKS A MILLION!

At OHA’s Gala & Benefit on February 23, we had the amazing opportunity to say “thank you for $1,000,000.”  OHA recognized Trident® as the newest donor to surpass one million dollars in donations.  Trident’s phenomenal support for OHA’s Smiles Across America® program since 2005 has enabled us to annually serve 310,000 children in 27 states and help to expand school-based dental programs.

Trident joins an illustrious group of organizations who have each given over $1,000,000 to OHA. The American Dental Association, WM. Wrigley Jr. Foundation, The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Procter & Gamble, DENTSPLY International, Henry Schein, and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation have all put their faith in our promise to provide access to care and education to those who need it most.

To these donors, our event sponsors and the 840 attendees who supported our 21st annual Gala and Benefit, we say “thanks a million.”  You helped us raise nearly $500,000 for the cause that we understand and embrace – connecting communities with resources so that ALL Americans have a chance to have a healthy mouth. We especially want to acknowledge the Chicago Dental Society for the unique opportunity to bring people together each year prior to their world class Midwinter Meeting.

Our year is off to a great start and we look forward to working with you to help improve oral health in your community.

With gratitude,

Beth Truett

WINTER’S END BRINGS SMILES ACROSS MINNESOTA TO MOORHEAD SCHOOL DISTRICT

Kristina Hein, Brand and Marketing Director, United Way of Cass-Clay; OHA’s Amanda Ciatti; Ann Johnson, Executive Director, Delta Dental of Minnesota Trust and Co-Chair of Smiles Across Minnesota; Jill Skarvold, Director of Learning Services, Moorhead School District; and Sarah Wovcha, Executive Director of Children’s Dental Services and Co-Chair of Smiles Across Minnesota, pose with the Tooth Fairy at the program launch.

OHA recently joined our Smiles Across America® grantee Smiles Across Minnesota (SAM) in wintery Moorhead, MN, to celebrate the expansion of its statewide preventive dental program to the Moorhead School District.

At the event, SAM Co-Chair Sarah Wovcha, JD, MPH, Executive Director of Children’s Dental Services, spoke to program partners, funders, including Delta Dental of Minnesota, and local media. “School-based dental services are cost effective,” she said. “Children receiving dental sealants in school-based programs have 60 percent less decay for up to five years.”

According to a recent survey conducted by the Minnesota Department of Health, 64 percent of the state’s third graders have dental sealants, compared to 23 percent nationally–SAM is making a difference!

NEED DENTAL SUPPLIES FOR YOUR SCHOOL SEALANT PROGRAM?

“Our services are the only dentistry that 78% of our children receive.  This year, we did not receive any additional grant monies to buy supplies.  Without SAA’s gracious support we wouldn’t be able to reach and treat as many children as we do.” Jill Barber, Athens, OH County Health Department School Based Sealant Program

With the end of the school year on the horizon, your dental supplies might be running low. Don’t worry! Oral Health America is here to help!  If you are a non-profit provider and need more supplies to get through the last few months, please fill out the product donation request form here. VOICE YOUR SUPPORT FOR ORAL HEALTH: CONTACT CONGRESS TODAY
Last week, the U.S. Senate rejected two different continuing budget resolutions, including one with massive cuts to critical services that impact families and children.
However, the debate over where to cut the federal budget is continuing.  Political rhetoric aside, reduced funding for our society means a lot less money in the system for oral disease prevention, community health centers, oral health infrastructure, workforce, and education.
This is an important time to contact your Congressional representatives and tell them to end stopgap budget measures, and committ to keeping America’s families healthy and strong.  Ask them to support responsible long-term budget decisions that prevent oral disease and reduce disparities.

Click here to find out how to contact your Senators and Representatives. Email Liz Rogers if you would like a copy of OHA’s template letter, which you can use in contacting your representatives.
SEPTODONT’S CAUSE MARKETING CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS OHA

Septodont’s Marketing Director Chris Corsette, (pictured here with OHA’s President and CEO Beth Truett and Associate Director of External Affairs Tony Stefanou, DMD) recently presented OHA with a generous donation following a three-month campaign. During the months of December, January, and February, Septodont donated 10 percent of every $500 spent on its N’Durance Composites to OHA. Thank you to Septodont, and to the dental practices that purchased composites in support of OHA!
